Ivan Bunin (1870-1953) Russian writer; wrote the novelette The Village (portraying country life through the story of two mismatched and unidealized peasant brothers); the autobiographical novel The Life of Arseniev; and the short-story collection Dark Avenues, among others; first Russian to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature (1933)
