BORN NOVEMBER 3:

William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) one of the most significant of America's early poets; his best known is "Thanatopsis" ("a view of death"); "To a Waterfowl" is also well known. Trained as a lawyer, he quit that profession and became a journalist, editing the New York Evening Post for half a century. A park next to the New York Public Library is named after him.
