BORN NOVEMBER 1:

Stephen Crane (1871-1900) American novelist, short story writer, poet, and journalist; his most famous work is the Civil War novel The Red Badge of Courage; another novel is Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, about a prostitute; notable short stories include "The Open Boat," "The Blue Hotel," and "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky"; and his novella The Monster is a devastating look at the treatment of a Black servant whose face was disfigured in a fire.
