BORN OCTOBER 3rd:

Gore Vidal (1925-2012) American author, social critic, and humanist who wrote Julian; Myra Breckinridge; Burr; and Lincoln. Bisexual himself, the open attitude to sexuality portrayed in his works as early as his third novel, The City and the Pillar (1948), provoked a response from the Establishment that never quite quieted down.
