Oct. 8: Frank Herbert, American science fiction writer

BORN OCTOBER 8th:

Frank Herbert (1920-1986) American science fiction writer who wrote Dune and its five sequels. He wrote other series, and short stories, as well as working as a newspaper journalist. All of this, however, is overshadowed by Dune which, having sold around 20 million copies worldwide, is considered the best-selling science fiction novel of all time. It is also widely agreed to be an inspiration for the Star Wars saga of George Lucas.
